The study has analysed the resource-use efficiency with identification of the factors that contribute to yield level of selected pulses in Maharashtra. It is based on the primary data collected during the year 2013–14 from 600 farm families (201 gram, 168 arhar, 92 moong and 33 urd) selected under the Comprehensive Scheme for Studying the Cost of Cultivation of Principal Crops from western Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of the state. The study has concluded that the proportions of total variations are 78 per cent in arhar, 76 per cent in gram, 74 per cent in moong and 72 per cent in urd crops. The MVP value has indicated that the behaviour of arhar, gram and urd cultivators in using the key inputs in production was quite satisfactory than of moong cultivators in Maharashtra. It is revealed from the study that resource-use efficiency and productivity levels are likely to be improved significantly through expansion of non-farm sectors, reforming of farmer associations and participating in agriculture innovating programs.
