Abstract

The study conducted in the Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir during the year 2013, has worked out the cost and return of sheep-rearing and its income pattern which can play a vital role in motivating the rearers for increasing efficiency and ultimately economic status. The overall per animal cost of sheep rearing in the Rajouri district as a whole has been found 914, whereas block-wise it was highest (1060) in Kalakote block, followed by Thannamandi (944), Sunderbani (898), Budhal (896), Rajouri (777) and Nowshera (703) blocks. The overall cost in the Rajouri district was highest across medium rearers due to higher cost incurred on imputed value of family labour. The overall per animal net income over cost C in the Rajouri district was found to be 919, whereas block-wise it was found to be highest (955) in Sunderbani, followed by Thannamandi (908), Nowshera (934), Kalakote (872), Rajouri (840) and Budhal (809). The net income per flock has been found highest in Nowshera block, followed by Rajouri, Kalakote, Sunderbani, Thannamandi and Budhal blocks.
