Abstract

Considering the importance of banana, the paper has estimated the trends in area, production, productivity, arrivals and prices of banana by collecting data for the year 2012–13 and fitting the exponential type function to data. The ACGR for area, production and productivity of banana in Maharashtra for the period from 2003–04 to 2012–13 has been estimated to be 7.01 per cent, 1.04 per cent and -1.88 per cent per annum, respectively. The ACGR for area has been found positive and significant, while for production, positive and non-significant and for productivity, it was negative and non-significant, because of stagnant growth over the 10-year period. The ACGR for area, production and productivity of banana in the Kolhapur district for the period from 2003–04 to 2012–13 has been estimated to be 7.72 per cent, 6.08 per cent and -1.29 per cent per annum, respectively. The ACGR for area and production has been found positive and non-significant, but for productivity, it was negative and non-significant due to fluctuations in climatic conditions.
