Abstract

The study has explored the efficiency of agricultural production and has attempted to develop optimum plans in a multi-objective framework for maximizing production, profit and other farming goals at farm and block levels by using weighted goal programming model. The data were collected from 60 farmers randomly selected from 6 revenue villages in Mailam block of Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. The study has compared the area allocation to different crops, resource utilization and profit to marginal, small and large farmers separately under the existing plan and optimal plan. The study has observed that profits to farmers increased considerably in the optimal plan. The study has concluded that there is considerable scope in the optimum plan for all categories of farmers in the study area.
