Inter- and Intra-year Fluctuations in Arrivals and Prices of Groundnut in Tindivanam District of Tamil Nadu

This study was carried out in Tindivanam district of Tamil Nadu to find the inter- and intra-year fluctuations in market arrivals and monthly wholesale prices of groundnut along with relationship between these two. The inter-year variations in market arrivals of groundnut were between 23.67 and 45.67 per cent of the average annual arrivals during the period 2005–2015. The coefficient of correlation between annual arrivals and annual prices was positive. There was a clear seasonality in the pattern of arrivals of groundnut. The inter-year coefficient of variation of prices was from 105 to 235 per cent. The intra-year variations in market prices ranged between 44.6 and 207.9 per cent. The price for groundnut was observed lowest during the month of March and highest in the month of October.
