Abstract

This study has looked into the price dynamics of garlic and the extent of spatial price integration between the garlic markets in Madhya Pradesh. For study the monthly time series data were collected for the period 2001–02 to 2013–14 from five major garlic markets, viz. Indore, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam and Ujjain. The study has revealed that prices were low during high market arrivals and vice versa and hence the farmers may be advised to plan their sale of produce properly. Also, fluctuations in market arrivals and prices being high and uneven, there is the need of dissemination of relevant information among the producers even in the remote areas. The study has also observed a strong integration among the markets. To help the growers, market infrastructural facilities like warehousing, transportation, processing, grading, etc. should be established.
