Production, Marketing, Requirment and Avalibility of Energy Value of Consumption of Sweet Corn in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, the cultivation of sweet corn is mostly concentrated in Kolhapur, Satara and Pune districts. This study conducted in Kolhapur district has estimated the costs and returns, marketing practices and pattern of disposal, marketing cost and price spread and also, requirement and availability of energy value of consumption from sweet corn. The average per hectare yield of sweet corn was observed to be 138.8 quintals, with byproduce of 176 quintals. The average per hectare gross income and net returns were 136321 and 70234, respectively with 2.06 as benefit-cost ratio. Since sweet corn is a highly nutritive food commodity, its availability and requirement (on population basis) were computed and it was found that production of sweet corn was more than requirement in nutrition terms in Kolhapur district.
