This study conducted in the Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir state during the year 2015 has observed that during kharif season, maize is the predominant crop covering 96.25 per cent of the total net sown area and during rabi season, wheat is the main crop cultivated in all the villages (95.55%) and both maize and wheat have high nutritional value. The total cost of cultivation of wheat on overall average was 18191/ha and the overall average gross income was worked out to be 27825/ha. In maize, the average cost of cultivation was worked out to be 16963/ha and average was 34811/ha. The benefit cost ratio for both these crops was found to be more than one, thereby indicating that cultivation of dryland maize and wheat was economically profitable.
