Abstract

The paper has assessed the impact of National Food Security Mission (NFSM) on input-use, agricultural production, income and employment among the beneficiary farmers in Gujarat. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. The primary data were obtained from 400 households for wheat crop — 200 each from top NFSM-wheat production district, Ahmedabad and bottom NFSM-wheat production district, Banaskantha for the year 2013–14. The secondary data were compiled from various published sources. The study has shown that net returns from wheat crop cultivation were more ( 13770/acre) by beneficiary households than nonbeneficiary households ( 10237/acre). The study has shown that a total 316 benefit items were availed by the selected 300 beneficiary households. The number of people engaged in farming and assets value have been found to significantly influence the decision on participation of farmers in NFSM. The selected farmers have suggested that subsidy should be directly sent in the bank account without any time gap. The study has come out with some important policy implications.
