Crop Diversification and Technology Adoption Strategies for Doubling Farmers Income-Evidences from Horticultural Crops

This study has looked into the income enhancing technological interventions that are available for horticultural crops and has assessed ex-post impact of adoption of prajwal (a tuberose hybrid) on farm income, primary data covering a sample of 130 grower-respondents. The study has indicated high profitability in prajwal cultivation with average annual net returns of around 5 lakhs/ha. A comparison with other competing crops in the region has indicated its consistently higher and regular yield and returns for sustaining daily home cash requirements of farm families. Further, utilizing primary data, the net discounted cash flows from the cultivation of prajwal have been computed for three/two-year crop cycles for each region for estimating the total net aggregate income from adoption of prajwal by the growers.
