This paper has assessed the impact of custom hiring service centres (CHSCs) on farm productivity and farmers’ income in Karnataka. The study has revealed that CHSCs have helped in increasing the productivity and income of small and marginal farmers to the extent of 11 to 60 per cent. Therefore, there is a much scope for improving the performance of CHSCs for the benefit of small and marginal farmers. The Custom Hiring model holds the potential to be an effective way to introduce capital-intensive, high quality and efficient farm mechanization across the small and marginal farmers in India.
