India's total silk production during 2016–17 was 30, 348 tonnes with a growth of around 6.4 per cent over the previous year. Despite a few unique initiatives under IVLP (Institute Village Linkage Programme), JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and Catalytic Development Programme, innovation in extension approaches holds the key to area expansion and productivity improvement. The technologies that translated into the real benefits for the stakeholders, found quick acceptance of the sericulturist in the field and revolutionized the Indian Sericulture Industry in recent years. This article has investigated whether the state of Tamil Nadu has capitalized on technology advancement as much as we had excepted and has become the role model in bivoltine silk revolution. If so, what are the contributing factor for the impressive growth of bivoltine sericulture development in the state. Some issues of importance that may give fillip to the sericulture sector to replicate this success and boost the overall bivoltine silk production in the country.
