This paper has looked into the effects of tenurial status of farmers on their decision to adopt modern rice varieties under varying rice ecosystems. A simple theoretical model has been developed which incorporates various specifications of secured tenurial status and has hypothesized a positive effect of it on adoption behaviour. Tobit regression model results have confirmed the positive influence of secured tenancy on adoption intensity in irrigated rice ecosystem, while it is not a significant factor influencing the adoption decision in rainfed ecosystem. Therefore, study has concluded that the tenurial status of farmer is a crucial factor in influencing adoption in conducive farm environment only.
