This study was carried out in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra state to know the growth rates and variability in nitrogen fertilizer subsidy using the data for a period of 11 years, from 2004–05 to 2014–15. The study has observed that, in period-I (2004–05 to 2009–10), the highest growth (15.34%) was observed in Amravati district while the lowest growth (3.93%) was observed in Chandrapur district. The highest variability (38.60%) was found in Wardha district, while the least variability (10.35%) was found in Bhandara district. During period-II (2010–11 to 2014–15), nitrogen fertilizer subsidy growth ranged from 3.30 per cent in Gadchiroli district to 5.62 per cent in Wardha district. The least variability 7.16 per cent was found in Yavatmal district while the highest variability was found in Akola district.
