Abstract

The study has evaluated the efficiency of jackfruit marketing in taluk Panruti of Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. It has looked into the price spread pattern in different channels of Jackfruit marketing and has identified the constraints encountered in jackfruit value chain. The reference year for the study was the agriculture year 2015–16. The price spread analysis has revealed that market intermediaries gain more profit than the producers. To curtail the activities of market intermediaries, an effective way is the announcement of advisory prices by the government. Establishing a Jack Promotion Council could also address the issue. Periodical trainings need to be provided to jack farmers on technical and market related affairs. Lack of awareness and needed guidance on value addition is found to be a major issue in the jack growing belt.
