The research on income, consumption and savings patterns of farmer households was carried out in Punjab during 2015–16. The data was collected from 150 randomly selected farm households, 50 each from the three agro-climatic zones. The farmers across the farm size categories were selected according to the probability proportion to size (PPS) of operational holdings in the state. Crops comprised the main source of farm household income (78.08%), followed by dairying (13.00%) and non-farm sources (8.92%). Average annual consumption expenditure of farm households was Rs. 1,66,124, and a major share of it was accounted for by food items (52.61%). Savings were the lowest for marginal farmers and the highest for large farmers. We found that the income, consumption and savings of households increase with increase in the farm size.
