This study has examined the structural changes in landholdings, income sources, income inequality and their implications on household consumption expenditure. The results show agriculture-based income as the major source of livelihood for farmers. Crop production is the major source of income, but the recent trend shows that within agriculture, livestock rearing is prominent among the marginal and small farmers. Wages and salaries also play an important role in their livelihood. Income inequalities have increased due to skewed distribution of land. Income from livestock, and wages and salaries have an equalising effect on income distribution. Consumption expenditure at household level is linked with higher income diversification.
