Ensuring food security in India through agriculture and dairy development

Feeding the ever-increasing population is one of the key challenges. Statistics reflect inequalities in food distribution that billions experience hunger and lack important micronutrirnts in their diets, whereas billions tend to overconsume. It is important to address the complexities of poverty, hunger and malnutrition to accomplish the vision of food and nutrition security. The paper highlights that India too faces problems of poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and thus food insecurity. If efforts are made to remove hunger only, then the vision of food security can never be achieved in spirit. Agriculture development coupled with dairy development can play a significant role in achieveing food security. Joinlty, these sectors can provide more quantity of diversified food, and enhance income of the vulnerable segment of society. Being an agrarian economy and the largest producer of milk, India has scope to attain food security by developing agriculture and dairy sectors together.
