The purpose of this paper is to quantify the output gap in groundnut in Thiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu, and compare it with the state level values. The paper draws upon theories and issues of technological and extension gaps and is based on information from 40 sample farmers. Area and production of groundnut showed negative annual growth rates but yield exhibited significantly positive annual growth rate. The input gap analysis revealed that gap was more in potash, and nitrogen was used in excess. The yield gap I and II were estimated as 928 kg/ha and 255 kg/ha, respectively. A multiple regression model was used to analyze the factors contributing to yield gap and the results showed that machine labour had a statistically significant and positive effect on yield gap.
