The present study was carried out in the agricultural year 2013–14 to study the value addition processes of rice, identify and map the existing rice value chains, and develop suitable value chain model. The study was conducted in Thanjavur district, popularly known as the Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu. The analysis reveals that at present net value addition of Rs. 4461/tonne of paddy is generated along the rice value chain which can be enhanced up to Rs. 9530 per tonne with the adoption of efficient value chain model. In this case, the total net value addition for rice production was Rs. 8020 and flaked rice production was Rs. 4461 for per tonne of paddy. However, the study revealed the possibilities of enhanced rice value chain to Rs. 9530 per tonne of paddy through developing efficient value chain model.
