Abstract

The present paper analyzes the impact of major non-timber forest products for sustainable livelihood on tribal economy of Chhattisgarh. The study was based on both primary and secondary data. A sample of 240 respondents is selected for the study. The analysis was carried out by using tools like percentages, averages, linear regression model, semi-log model and annual growth rates have been used. The results revealed that CAGR for Tendu leaves, Kullu gums, Sal seed and Harra registered negatively significant growth rates at 1.90%, 14.51%, 13.98% and 7.30% per annum, respectively. On an average 1110.22 Kg. of NTFPs were collected out of which only 5.02% was consumed and the rest was sold in the market. There were three marketing channels for major NTFPs: Channel – I: Collector – Consumer. Channel – II: Collector – Village level retailer - Wholesaler – Consumer. Channel – III: Collector – CGMFPFED – Consumer. Disposal pattern showed that 53.44% of sold quantities of NTFPs are traded to minor forest produce society. Whereas on an average 968.41 Kg (94.58%) NTFPs out of total quantity of 1023.88 kg marketable NTFPs was processed at primary level by forest dwelling tribes.
