The Government of India introduced Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee to ensure 100 mandays wage employment in a financial year to a rural household. Besides providing employment, the Government is enhancing the assets creation through MGNREGA. There are two types of asset creation under this scheme. First one is asset creation at community level like construction of roads (cement roads) and community ponds, water conservations and etc. Second is asset creation at individual level. The study was undertaken in three districts of Karnataka to investigate the asset creation and its role in enhancing agriculture growth. The study reveals that based on a primary data of 90 households from three districts. MGNREGA contributed to their increasing production of crops and milk in Karnataka, thereby raising average income of households from Rs. 16119 to Rs. 20150.
