Exploring the possibilities of enhancing agricultural productivity through Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana in Tamil Nadu

India has become the world's sixth biggest economy but holds 100^th place out of 119 countries in Global Hunger Index 2017. The metamorphosis can be brought about by achieving high productivity in agriculture and ending up with real self-sufficiency. Irrigation is one of the problems in a country with vagaries of rainfall and variety of resources. Hence the Indian Government heralded Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana for the betterment of irrigation facilities in the country. This article analyses the effectiveness of PMKSY in the state of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu is a state which has many rivers but most of which were dry because of two reasons, first many rivers originate outside Tamil Nadu, and second, irregular monsoon which makes local originating rivers dry. PMKSY in Tamil Nadu is progressing with every year fulfilling its target to the maximum possible level. The state achieved 86.5% of its physical target and 71.98% of its financial target in the year 2017–18. Thus, the scheme has found to be pragmatic in the state and helps to ameliorate productivity in agriculture in the long haul.
