Abstract

The vision of doubling farmers’ income can be achieved through various means. Among them promoting Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) can be one of the approaches. The concept of FPOs was started in the year 2011–12. In Telangana the number of FPOs are picking up. The present study examined the functioning of 20 FPOs in the state and found only five of them to be successful. The major reasons for the success of these five FPOs include group approach, strengthened linkages and increased income levels among the group members. Lack of financial support was the major hindrance in the functioning of FPOs in Telangana.
