Abstract

The financial institutions have launched different schemes to promote farming as majority of the farmers in India are marginal and small. One of such successful initiative by the government is the Kisan Credit Card (KCC). This scheme was started to help farmers purchase various agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides etc. and draw cash for their production needs. The use of Kisan Credit Cards helps the small and marginal farmers buy agricultural inputs during the season. The study suggests that increased use of KCC will mitigate the agrarian distress and thus will help in preventing farmers’ suicides.
