This study assesses the impact of mechanization in the Cauvery delta of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. A sample of 120 farmers was selected randomly. The average net returns per hectare was Rs. 21, 434/ha on mechanized farms and Rs. 14, 660/ha on partially mechanized farms. The logit analysis reveals that the adoption of mechanization was influenced significantly and positively by farmers’ education and access to machines and extension agents. The regression analysis revealed that the coefficients of input costs and tractor time were the factors showing significant negative influence on the labour requirement. The coefficient of animal power shows a significant and positive impact on labour requirement.
