Agricultural establishments including agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishery play a vital role in the Indian economy. To frame the agricultural establishment employment status with socio-economic status, ownership, caste, creed and source of finance, primary and secondary data were compiled from economic census reports from 2007 to 2016. The results show that the share of establishments engaged in livestock in rural India was 87.12%, followed by agriculture other than crop production and plantation (4.89%), forestry and logging (4.79%) and fishing and aquaculture (3.20%). Gujarat had the maximum number of agricultural establishments (1.75 million) constituting 13.36% of all agricultural establishments in the country. It is followed by Tamil Nadu (13.31%), Maharashtra (12.12%), Andhra Pradesh (11.13%) and Uttar Pradesh (11.01%)
