Abstract

Maize is important as food, feed and fodder, and its cultivation, disposal and industrial uses generate income and employment. This study aims to analyse the cost and income measures, resource use efficiency and constraints in its cultivation. One hundred respondents were selected from Tejwapur block of Bahraich district, including all three categories of farm size, and tabular and functional analysis conducted. Technical, managerial, financial and miscellaneous problems (risk and uncertainty) are found to be the major constraints. Government agencies and financial institutions should help farmers overcome these, as maize is the most suitable crop for the farmers of Bahraich district.
