The study analyses the cost and returns of litchi production in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. The average per hectare cost of establishment of litchi orchard was worked out to be Rs.75, 236 at the overall level. The per hectare cost of establishment for small, medium and large farmers was Rs.83, 010, Rs.74, 193 and Rs.69, 406 respectively. However, the average annual cost of cultivation per hectare was Rs.42, 382, Rs.38, 523 and Rs.38, 092 for small, medium and large farmers respectively. At the overall level, the average annual cost of cultivation per hectare was found to be Rs.39, 666. The per hectare yield was highest in small group (84.47 q) followed by medium (78.02 q) and large (74.02 q). At the overall level, the per hectare yield was 78.83 quintals. The average per hectare gross value of litchi was Rs.1, 73, 440 at overall level and it was Rs.1, 85, 834, Rs.1, 71, 644 and Rs.1, 62, 844 for small, medium and large group respectively. The per hectare net profit was highest for small group (Rs.1, 43, 452) followed by medium farmers (Rs.1, 33, 121) and large farmers (Rs.1, 24, 752) and it was Rs.1, 33, 774 at overall level.
