This study investigates women's participation in agricultural activities. It uses the unit-level data of the Cost of Cultivation Scheme for 2013–14 of Bihar, the NSSO data of 2015–16 and wages data from 2006 to 2016 to conduct a tabular analysis. The share of women's agricultural workforce in the total workforce fell from 16.57% in 2001 to 6.23% in 2011. To strengthen women's participation in agriculture and allied sectors and to improve their access to land, loans and other facilities, the government has made policy provisions like joint leasing for both domestic and agricultural land under the national policy for farmers. Under its credit facility, the government has framed a policy for issuing women Kisan Credit Cards for creating livelihoods through livestock practices and agricultural processing. Despite all these efforts, however, the gender gap in the state is still wide.
