Abstract

This study analyses the comparative economics of paddy cultivation methods in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. For the sample, we selected 90 growers who had adopted the traditional method, the Saguna Rice Technology (SRT) method and the char-suttri method. We analysed the data using various statistical models. The results showed that the SRT and char-suttri methods are more profitable than the traditional method. The yield gap II (demonstration yield gap) and yield gap III (potential yield gap) was increasing in the SRT and char-suttri methods, indicating that less yield is obtained than the demonstrated and potential yield. Farmers face constraints from difficult management practices and the non-availability of skilled labour, machines and tools.
