The present study analyses the production performance of mango in India. It is based on secondary data on the area, production and productivity of mango in the major mango-producing states from 1987–88 to 2017–18. The production of mango and the area under cultivation showed an increasing trend and a positive growth rate, but productivity declined, the growth rate was negative and instability over the years was high. These need to be addressed by high density planting, replacing old orchards having low-productivity trees with mango varieties that have high yields and market demand.
