Abstract

Many Mumbai fisherwomen participate in Koli seafood festivals, and this study explores the possibility of replicating these festivals in Kashmir. We used unstructured interview schedules to discuss this possibility with the fisherwomen of Srinagar. They were interested, but there is no cooperative, infrastructure or basic facilities like fish markets. We suggest that fish festivals be organized regularly in Srinagar to bring the fisherwomen together, give them a collective voice and provide them a platform to share, learn and earn profits.
