Abstract

Keeping in mind the importance of crop insurance in risk mitigation, this study uses NSSO data on Rajasthan to examine farmers’ adoption of crop insurance as a risk management strategy and identify the factors that influence farmers’ decision to buy crop insurance. Gender, age, education level, landholding size, agriculture as the principle source of income and training were significantly associated with farm households’ decisions to purchase crop insurance. The findings of this study are expected to guide government, insurance companies, and officials in implementing crop insurance programmes more effectively.
