Abstract

The minimum support price (MSP) is an important component of the agriculture price policy in India. This study, based on secondary data compiled from different sources, analyses the gap between the cost of production of cotton in Karnataka and its MSP. The MSP ranged from 63.38% of the cost of cultivating cotton to 101.77%, and there is a need to use standard economic principles and scientific methods to fix the MSP.
