Abstract

An attempt is made to study the employment, income and expenditure pattern of tribals in Dhanora tehsil of Gadchiroli district. The findings reveal that tribal agriculture was paddy-based cropping in rainfed conditions. Tribal farmers are illiterate or educated up to the primary level. Capital investment in productive assets is low; as a result, the socio-economic status of tribal individuals or families is low. For tribal farm families, the major sources of family income were crop production, wage earning, service and sale of forest produce; and their gross family income was positively influenced by factors such as gross cropped area, the number of earners and annual employment. Annual employment is significantly influenced by the additional gross cropped area and the number of family workers and livestock units.
