Abstract

This paper assesses the changes in employment diversification in Uttarakhand between 2004–05 and 2011–12 using survey data from the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO). The results reveal a sharp decline of 17.68% in the primary sector workforce, a 10.78% increase in the secondary sector workforce and a 6.89% increase in the tertiary sector workforce. The state economy is shifting from agriculture to manufacturing, but the services sector is still the principal sector. That is a sign of structural change in the state's economy.
