Abstract

In Jammu & Kashmir state, especially in the Kashmir valley, the political uncertainty in general and the armed conflict since 1989 in particular has impacted every socio-economic activity, and tourism and allied sectors like art and craft are the worst casualty. In this paper, we examine the impact of the conflict on tourist flow by considering primary and secondary data on the number of killings by year and the number of tourists visiting Kashmir valley. The results show a strong relationship between tourist flow and the number of killings. Suggestions and recommendations are made to improve the tourist flow in the present political set-up.
