The study was undertaken to assess the supply-side effects of the MGNREGA on agricultural labour, wages and farm income and formulate suggestions for managing agricultural labour better. The MGNREGS has increased the work participation of beneficiaries and their average workdays by 26.87%. The MGNREGS projects should aim to provide agricultural labourers off-season employment. Hence, it should take up agricultural works in collaboration with private farmers, on a 50: 50 share of the labour cost. That would help individual farmers bring down the high cost of farming owing to the high market wage and eliminate the labour shortage in the sector.
