This study aims to understand the local perception of climate change and its consequences on food production in the Kashmir valley of Jammu & Kashmir state. A well-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 400 respondents selected randomly in the study area. The data collected was analysed using the appropriate statistical tools. The results reveal that people perceive that food security is directly impacted by an increase in temperature, unpredictable rainfall, an increase in the frequency of disaster and a decrease in food production. Most respondents were aware that climate change impacts food production but they do not know how to adopt. Our study concludes that to cope with the impacts of climate change, people's socio-economic profile and their awareness of food production have to be modified, and that policy instruments are needed to enhance food security in the Kashmir valley.
