Economic evaluation of feed supplement on fish production

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food processing sector. Total fish production in India in 2015–16 was 10.79 MT, which includes 7.21 MT from the inland sector and 3.58 MT from the marine sector. The present study was carried out by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala in the farmer's fish culture ponds as an on-farm trial to assess the effect of mineral mixture supplementation on fish production. The data were collected from experimental (OFT plots) as well as from control plots (farmers practices). Finally, the production and benefit-cost ratio were worked out to compare the effects of the technical interventions. The results indicated that the fish production produces highest yield of 49.50 q/ha in the mineral mixture supplementation group, but in farmer practices it was 42.25 q/ha. A 17.16% increase in yield of treatment was observed as compared to farmer practices. The costbenefit ratio (B: C) of mineral mixture supplementation was higher (2.05) than control (1.76).
