This study in the tribal-dominated Palghar district was undertaken to identify the existing farming systems and work out internal cost adjustments with return and also to estimate income and employment generation in existing farming systems. A sample of 120 households was selected from two tehsils, and eight farming systems were observed: crops and vegetables; crops and dairy; crops and flowers; crops and goats; crops, vegetables and dairy; crops, vegetables and flowers; crops, vegetables and orchards; and crops, flowers, orchards and dairy. Crops and dairy showed the maximum share of internal cost adjustment (70.70%). Based on return per rupee investment, crops and flowers were found to be more profitable than other farming systems.
