This paper studies the effect of mangroves on the fish population of the coastal states of India from 1997 to 2017. The fish catch is positively associated with mangroves in all coastal states other than Kerala and Odisha, and 35% of the fish catch is mangrove-dependent. The growth trend for mangroves, though marginal, is increasing. The fishing industry can increase its yield without over-exploiting the mangrove-dependent fish resource.
