Abstract

Raising the production and productivity in agriculture and improving the level of living of smallholders is a major challenge for the planners and policy makers in Tripura. Due to dominance of ultra-small landholdings the traditional farming may not be sufficient for raising income. The present study captures the nature and extent of crop diversification through Simpson index using data obtained from 400 farm households. Further, it identifies the determinants of crop diversification and its role in augmenting farmers’ income. The results show diversification as pivotal in augmenting farm income.
