Abstract

A flail-mower has been developed as an attachment to the prime-mower of a self-propelled paddy reaper. The flail-mower was field evaluated for cutting Ipomea cornea and parthenium plants. The mower was found suitable for clearing land from bushy plants especially parthenium with an effective field capacity of 0.20 ha/h. The attachment costs Rs. 8300/- excluding the cost of the prime-mover. The operational cost of the mower was Rs. 140/- per ha which was only 40% of the cost of conventional method of clearing the land using manual labour
