Abstract

Energy balance of earth was studied by analyzing earth's energy system consisting energy inflows from outer space, energy outflows to outer space, energy stores, energy flows from and to energy stores and anthropogenic interference Systems approach was used to analyze the energy flows Data on consumption of non-renewable energy sources for the year 1971 to 1988 were used to find the energy balance of earth. It was found that our earth lost energy at the rate of 162 x 1018 J/y and the rate increased during the period studied The paper raises policy issues connected with renewable and non-renewable energy use.
