Abstract

An experiment was conducted with a bullock powered rotary complex to operate a chaff cutter suitable for a 1 h.p. power source. A pair of Khillari bullocks of 920kg body weight was used in the study. The draft requirement for the chaff cutting operation was found to be well within the capacity of a pair of bullocks (735 N). The chaff cutter gave an average output of 120 kg/h. The results snowed that it is feasible to use a pair of bullocks as an alternative power source to operate a chaff cutter that needs 1 h.p., by using a suitably designed gear box. Thereby it is possible to save Rs. 2030.90 on electricity to produce 180,000 kg of chaffed fodder for which the idle period of a pair of bullocks can be used each year. If the Rotary unit is used for 8 hours a day its daily output of 960 kg will be sufficient to meet the fodder requirement of 96 animals at the rate of 10 kg/animal/day.
