Abstract

The shading effectiveness of Narmada roofing tiles was compared with three other indigeneous roofing tiles. The parameters evaluated below the 30 cm level under the toofirig were the difference betweeen the indoor air temperature, the heat exchange potential to birds, net heat load and total effects of heat surrounding on a fully absorptive body. Net radiant heat and total radiant loads were calculated. The shading effectiveness of Narmada tile (half round) was found to be the highest (1.70) with Allahabad tile as control (1.00). The shading effectivenesses of remaining three, namely, Narmada tiles (traingular), pot tiles and plain tiles were found to be 1.65, 0.60.and 0.53, respectively.
