Abstract

Power operated water chestnut decorticator consists of a feed hopper and a rotating shoe assembly, Feed hopper is made from M. S. sheet having a sieve in the bottom and two M.S. sheets on the sides. Rotating shoe assembly consists of four shoe assemblies having three shoes in each shoe assembly. Investigations were carried out to develop a power operated water chestnut decorticator and test the developed machine. Decortication efficiency of the decorticator was found maximum (99.10%) at 35 rpm. Broken percentage was observed maximum at 100 rpm, whereas, minimum broken percentage was obtained at 25 rpm followed by 35 rpm. The capacity of the machine was computed as 150 kg/h at 35 rpm.
