Abstract

Optimum ballasting helps a tractor to match its mass well to a given implement load. Mechanically slip may be thought of as a safety valve, which limits drive train loads to a safe level. A ballasting software has been developed for 2WD agricultural tractors for an optimum slip range of 8 to 12 per cent. The softwarecan be used to find the optimum depth of operation for different tillage implements. The software predicts the drawbar performance and the optimum ballast requirement for 2WD tractors when slip exceeds 12 per cent. This range of slip can be changed to any other range ifdesired.
